Fellowship Program
The Tech Policy Press Fellowship seeks to facilitate global reporting, analysis, and commentary of critical topics at the intersection of tech and democracy in order to inform the public and decision-makers.
Since the program was launched in 2023, it has supported 25 fellows from around the world—including Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Ireland, Kenya, the Netherlands, Spain, the United Kingdom, the US, and Vietnam—who have contributed original reporting and policy analyses on subjects such as AI governance, digital rights, tech regulation, and the growing entanglements between state and corporate power.
Fellows benefit from engaging with an international cohort for regular feedback and exchange of ideas, receive ongoing editorial guidance from our staff, and participate in monthly sessions designed to support and strengthen their work.
About the fellowship
25 fellows across the three cohorts have produced a wide range of news, analysis, and perspective, bringing fresh insights and greater nuance to tech policy debates globally.
“Tech Policy Press gave me the space to explore important issues outside of my 9 to 5 work. The team was always supportive, and I'm grateful to have learned from them. There isn't a better outlet, with a smarter audience, publishing on this important beat.” — Dean Jackson, 2024 Fellow
The program reflects Tech Policy Press’ commitment to promoting new and diverse voices in the global conversation on technology and democracy. Each fellow brings a perspective shaped by their local experience and expertise. Every month, they come together to share stories, discuss challenges, and learn from each other’s work across different countries and fields. These conversations help them stay up to date and gain a broader, global perspective on technology’s impact on democracy. Regular check-ins with editorial staff help fellows refine their ideas and deepen their understanding of the complex issues they cover.
“I applied to the Reporting Fellowship because I wanted guidance in making sense of a highly polarized beat, and I have greatly benefited from conversations both with my cohort and the staff at Tech Policy Press. My stories are more nuanced and robust due to the mentorship from the Tech Policy Press team.” — Jasmine Mithani, 2025 Fellow
A key goal for our fellowship is to provide a platform for emerging voices in journalism and technology policy.
“As someone who is still relatively early in my career, being a fellow for Tech Policy Press really opens doors in the tech policy space.” — Megan Kirkwood, 2025 Fellow
Tech Policy Press believes that a more democratic and accountable tech future requires rigorous, independent reporting from every corner of the world. Through this fellowship, we aim to contribute to that future—by investing in journalists and researchers who are asking hard questions and telling stories that matter.
