Michael L. Bąk

Michael L. Bąk is the Head of Policy & Network at AI Safety Asia, an NGO, and a recognized expert with over 25 years experience in democratic governance, public policy, civil society, human rights, peacebuilding and ethical tech policy. He is a Non-Resident Visiting Senior Fellow at the NYU Center for Global Affairs focusing on cyber policy and serves as an Advisor at the Singapore-based Centre for AI Leadership (C4AI) and is Co-Founder and Director of Policy Research at Sprint Public Interest, a Thailand-based public interest research agency on a mission to help people build their best lives through inspired, sustainable policymaking based on inclusive data insights and storytelling. Previously, he was Executive Director of the Paris-based Forum on Information and Democracy, was a public policy leader at Facebook (Meta), and served in senior roles at the United Nations and US Agency for International Development. He holds a Master’s Degree in International Relations and Development Economics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, a BA in French Literature and International & Area Studies from Kalamazoo College, and a Certificate in Japanese Studies from Nagoya Gakuin University in Japan. He is fluent in English, French, and Bahasa Indonesia, previously fluent in Japanese, with additional working knowledge of Spanish, Thai, Melayu and Portuguese. He lives in Bangkok, Thailand, and has lived much of his life in Southeast Asia.
