Amy Winecoff

Amy Winecoff, PhD, is a Senior Technologist at Georgetown University's Knight-Georgetown Institute (KGI), where she develops technically informed, empirically grounded approaches to technology policy, design, and governance. Her work focuses on protecting individuals from harms associated with digital technologies, with current projects centered on age assurance and the measurement of platform-related harms. She brings deep expertise in AI governance, particularly in the areas of transparency, evaluation, and mental health. Prior to joining KGI, Amy was an AI governance researcher at the Center for Democracy & Technology (CDT) and the Princeton Center for Information Technology Policy (CITP). Earlier in her career, she worked as a data scientist at e-commerce companies, building and deploying production-scale recommendation systems. She holds a PhD in Psychology and Neuroscience from Duke University, a background that informs her interdisciplinary and social scientific approach to technology policy and governance.
